Tormo in a Rare Semifinal
Number four seed Sara Sorribes Tormo made her way into the semifinal here with a 6-2, 6-3 win over last week’s WTA Hungarian semifinalist Anna Bondar. That win has certainly made a strong case for why Spaniard should reach the final.
She also had a good match in the second round as she routed Leolia Jeanjean 6-0, 6-2. It marked a good improvement over her three-set slogfest with Ana Bogdan in the WTA Palermo opener – which she ultimately won 2-6, 6-4, 6-2.
Now ranked World No. 41, Tormo is 21-12 and has had a decent year overall. The 25-year-old won a doubles title in Istanbul (and reached the QF in singles) and was one of the final eight t in Lausanne, Madrid, Monterrey, and Guadalajara.
Over these tournaments, Sara beat a few big names like Naomi Osaka, Beatriz Haddad Maia, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, and Daria Kasatkina.
Tormo also boasts of a decent clay pedigree – at least on the ITF Tour with 15 finals on the surface. In some ways, a run like this was only a matter of time for her.

Begu Schools Parry
Irina-Camelia Begu enjoyed a comfortable win over the 19-year-old Frenchwoman Diane Parry 6-1, 6-3 in the quarters. This marks her third-such feat this season; her first one since the St. Petersburg Open in February.
That time too, the Romanian reached the semifinal but fell to Maria Sakkari. Since then, Begu may not have made it deep, but she did have a good run in big-ticket tournaments like the Miami Open, Charleston, and Wimbledon (round three).
She also boasts of a decent clay form with a round-of-16 run in the French Open – making it the best-performing Slam of her career.
Speaking of her career, Irina-Camelia has a good track record in WTA 250 events, with seven finals to her name. Three of those are on clay – and she has almost twice as many in the doubles department.
Begu v Tormo Prediction and Tip
This match can swing either way – backing this to be a long match seems like a reasonable bet. After all, both are separated by just four ranking places and have had a pretty similar year so far.
