Alison Van Uytvanck was one of the dark horses at this year’s Wimbledon Championships and was tipped by many to go deep at the grass court Major. And it was easy to agree with that narrative.
Van Uytvanck went to SW19 in the most ideal scenario. She won two titles in the build-up to the tournament – the Surbiton ITF and the WTA 125K level in Gaiba, dropping a combined total of just one set across those events.
But her door was slammed shut right out of the gate by the US Open champion Emma Raducanu in a tough first round. She hasn’t played in nearly a month since, taking time to recharge her batteries and preparing for the second half of the season.
The 28-year-old will be working to get a seeding spot for the last Grand Slam of the season. If she continues to perform steadily in the next couple of months, she will likely achieve that feat very soon.

Jakupovic Defeats Glushko to Qualify
Dalila Jakupovic qualified for the main draw of the Prague Open, defeating Lina Glushko in the second round of qualifying. After seeing off the top-seeded qualifier Yue Yuan just a few hours earlier during the day, Jakupovic maintained her composure to beat Glushko in straight sets later in the evening.
She had a much sterner test against the Israeli World No. 224 who competed so bravely in the opening set. Jakupovic overcame a wobbly game at 5-4 in which she was broken while serving for the set. But she broke again immediately thereafter, before sealing the set at the second time of asking.
In the second set, both players exchanged breaks early on, but once the Slovenian upped the ante, she did not give her opponent a route back into the match. Jakupovic broke for a 4-3 lead and then saved a pair of break points on her own serving when she served for the match.
The 31-year-old will appear in the main draw of the Prague Open for just the second time.
Van Uytvanck v Jakupovic Prediction and Tip
This will be Jakupovic’s first taste of main draw action this season on the WTA tour. But I don’t she will be intimidated by the occasion. she has played supremely well to qualify, and looks equipped to challenge Van Uytvanck on Monday.
