Kokkinakis’ resurgence
Thanasi Kokkinakis is enjoying a resurgence this year and it all started back home in Adelaide where he won his maiden trophy. He grew up and lives in the city so it was a special feeling for him, especially after dealing with so many injuries over the years.
He followed it up with a doubles trophy at the Australian Open and since then, Kokkinakis has played steady tennis to rise to number 69 in the world. He’s 19-11 on the year with a 15.5 record on hard courts. He feels most at home on hard courts and they hit his playstyle the best.
Kokkinakis has a powerful serve that will suit him well in North America, especially on the fast hard courts. If he can play as consistent as he did earlier in the year he will be a dangerous opponent. He’ll get a good chance to ease himself into it in Atlanta.
The last month on Tour was a bit rough for him so he needs some wins to get back on track.

Hometown Hopeful Martin
Andres Martin lived in Atlanta for many years before his parents elected to move the family more north in Georgia. He’s a college player who has really played well on the circuit this year but doesn’t have much experience at the pro level.
He played a couple of futures events gathering some points and climbing to number 7oo in the rankings but he’s far away from a proper breakthrough. Martin is a typical American player with strong groundstrokes and a powerful serve.
He can play well on hard courts because he has played on them his entire life. Being back home in Atlanta will certainly motivate him as the wild card gives him a chance to test himself at the ATP level.
The 21-year-old is unlikely to win but who knows. Strangers things have happened.
Kokkinakis v Martin Prediction and Tip
Thanasi Kokkinakis is the overwhelming favourite in this one simply because his opponent never played an official ATP match.
He’s in the main draw thanks to a wild card and he did not play an official match in over a month. Neither did Kokkinakis but I expect the Aussie to handle it better.
Tip: Kokkinakis to win in straight sets: 10/11 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
