At 18 years of age, local favourite Dominika Salkova made her WTA main draw debut on Tuesday with a resounding 6-1, 6-4 win over the 23-year-old Swiss Ylena In-Albon.
She started as a qualifier and defeated Astra Sharma and Natalia Vikhlyantseva in three sets to make it this far.
With this performance, the teenager, who represents the next generation of tennis stars in the Czech Republic, has assured herself of hefty prize money and a good boost in the rankings. She is now ranked World No. 421 on the WTA and #867 on the ITF.
Her season highlights include an ITF title in the singles and doubles departments – in Croatia and Egypt, respectively.

Bouzkova, in her Element
Marie Bouzkova is having a career-best season, with her current tally now standing at 27-10. In February, she was a finalist in Abierto Zapopan and a doubles champion in Istanbul.
Most recently, she played at Wimbledon, where she posted her best Grand Slam results by reaching the quarterfinal – defeating Danielle Collins, Caroline Garcia, and Alison Riske-Amritraj en route.
Marie has played with good consistency across the three surfaces. She enjoyed similar runs in Madrid and Indian Wells (mid-rounds as a qualifier) and Monterrey.
Bouzkova is the current World No. 66 and looks confident of a deep run in Prague. She began her journey with a 6-2, 7-6(2) win over Sinja Kraus in the opener.
