Resiliant Andujar Battles Past Ninth Seed Sonego
A resilient Pablo Andujar came back from 0-4 down in the third set to topple ninth seed Lorenzo Sonego in the opening round of the Kitzbuhel Open on Tuesday.
The World no. 98 broke the Italian twice in the opening set while he got broken just once to take a one-set lead.
In the second, it was Sonego who got an early break but Andujar got the break back only to see the Italian surge ahead once again to force the decider. Sonego carried the momentum into the third and raced to a 4-0 lead, but the 36-year-old refused to surrender. He fought back taking the match into the deciding set tiebreak before sealing the match 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (7-4).
Since reaching the semifinals of the Marbella Challenger, Andujar had a tough time on the court, going 2-9 across levels. But a runner-up finish at the Challenger event in Iasi, Romania, two weeks ago helped him regain his form and he seems to by carrying that rhythm to Kitzbuhel.
It will be interesting to see how far can he go in the tournament, where he has a 6-5 record from past appearances and made it to the quarterfinals in 2011 and 2019.

Misolic Wins on Debut
World No. 205 Filip Misolic won his debut match at the tour-level, defeating Brazil’s Daniel Dutra da Silva in the opening round on Monday.
Misolic, 20, who won his first-ever Challenger title in Zagreb in May, needed an hour and 45 minutes to beat the lucky loser 6-2, 7-6 (8-6).
A very good clay court player, the right-handed Austrian won 82% points on the first serve, converted three of nine break points and saved four of five to oust the World no. 215.
A six-time ITF winner, Misolic was also a semifnalist at the Tunis Challenger recently. Can he pull off a surprise win on Wednesday and reach a maiden ATP quarterfinal?
Andujar v Misolic Prediction and Tip
Andujar is vastly experienced. But the four-time ATP champion has played in just one tour-level quarterfinal this year, in Rio. However, the Spaniard is a heavy favourite to win on Wednesday and advance to a second quarterfinal of the season.
