Barbora Krejcikova v Nao Hibino Head to Head

Hibino has a surprising 1-0 lead over Krejcikova, last upsetting her in the 2018 WTA Suzhou in three sets.

Krejcikova Starts Strong

On the singles side, Krejcikova – now ranked #18 – found herself losing early to players like Xiyu Wang, Ajla Tomljanovic, Marta Kostyuk, and Anastasia Potapova. But here at home, as the defending champion, she has done well to quell those fears with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Anna Blinkova in the opener.

Around the same time two months ago, Barbora Krejcikova found herself as the new World No. 2. However, that success was only short-lived due to the persistent arm injury that kept her out of action.

The Czech started the season on a brilliant note with deep runs in Sydney and Melbourne; she also won the Australian Open doubles with Katerina Siniakova.

That impressive feat was followed by early exits in Doha, Dubai, and a long absence from the tour. After recovering for almost two months, Barbora played in the French Open but lost to Diane Parry in the opener.

The switch to grass brought some reprieve for her but only on the doubles circuit – she won the Wimbledon doubles, again with Siniakova.

Hibino Makes Most of her Chance

Nao Hibino – ranked World No. 251 – has had a tumultuous season, with her tally standing at 19-17 before the tournament.

In the tournament, she started as a qualifier for obvious reasons but fell to Oksana Selekhmeteva in the final prelim match in three sets. However, the lucky loser rule got her through to the main draw, where she made the most of her second opportunity.

In the opener, the 27-year-old Japanese dismissed Mihaela Buzarnescu 6-2, 6-2 to register her first WTA main-draw victory of the season.

Until now, her exploits have largely come on the ITF Tour, where she was a finalist in June in Chiang Rai and a doubles champion in Bonita Springs in May.

Hibino has been hard at work building her form, and as a five-time WTA career finalist, she does have some pedigree to rely on.

Krejcikova v Hibino Prediction and Tip

This match is Krejcikova’s to lose; she may be out of sorts, but she has got the perfect chance to find her rhythm and get back to her winning ways.

Expect a straight-set win over Barbora.
