Frances Tiafoe v Brandon Nakashima Head to Head
There have been three previous matches at the highest level between these two players and Tiafoe has won every single time. They had faced off in one other match on the Challenger circuit in 2020 as well and Tiafoe had come out a winner there too.
Interestingly, two of those matches came earlier this year, one apiece at Indian Wells and Miami.

Taro Daniel had come into his second round match filled with confidence of having blasted Sebastian Korda out of court in his previous round. Tiafoe was having none of it though as he came through in straight sets against Daniel to book his last eight spot.
Tiafoe won 7-5, 6-4 in a match lasting an hour and 41 minutes as he overcame Daniel in an encounter of fine margins.
Things looked to be headed into a tie-breaker in the first set before Tiafoe won the first break of serve for the match in the 11th game. He served out the set off the next.
In the second, Tiafoe pulled past the flagging Daniel’s serve on two occasions – in the third and fifth game – and while the Japanese player got one back, it was a case of too little, too late in the end.
This followed a first round bye for Tiafoe.

Nakashima Sends Out Another Aussie
After having scraped past Jordan Thompson in the first round, Nakashima did not face too many issues in getting a win over John Millman in the second round.
Nakashima, who had reached the fourth round at Wimbledon, registered a 7-6 (8), 6-4 victory over the Aussie, in a match lasting an hour and 52 minutes.
In an encounter that saw neither player give an inch for most of its parts, the 56th-ranked Nakashima saved three set-points in the opening tie-breaker before converting his second to take the lead.
The only break of serve for the entire match came in the fifth game of the second set which allowed Nakashima to close out the encounter in straight sets and march into the last eight.
Things could get a lot tougher against Tiafoe though.

Not much to choose between the two but rather interestingly it’s Nakashima who starts off with a very small edge at 5/6 as compared to Tiafoe who is 1/1. Backing Tiafoe’s form to see him through given also his head to head record against Nakashima.
