Victoria Azarenka v Dayana Yastremska Head to Head
It is 1-0 to Yastremska, and that win came in the US Open swing in 2019. The two players met in Toronto, where the Ukrainian prevailed in straight sets to reach the fourth round.

Former world number one, current world number 20 Victoria Azarenka has had a pretty bleak season so far. Although she is 14-8, she hasn’t been that active of late, and most of those wins came on hard courts.
Of course, this (and her overall experience) bodes well for her chances in North America. Three of her last four finals have come here, including the Indian Wells Open last season.
Azarenka’s last tournament was the French Open, where she lost to Jil Teichmann in the third round. The 32-year-old had reached the mid-rounds in Rome, Madrid, and Miami too – but ended up losing to a litany of youngsters like Linda Fruhvirtova, Amanda Anisimova, and Iga Swiatek.
On the back of a long hiatus, Victoria will hope to find her groove in Washington this week – but it is likely to be challenging and tricky.

Yastremska, in a Similar Boat
World No. 77, 22-year-old Dayana Yastremska hasn’t played a match since the Wimbledon Championships; she fell in the first round to Ana Bogdan to mark the end of a rather disappointing grass swing.
Expect for a quarterfinal stint in Birmingham, she was beaten in the openers – something that seems to be a recurring theme in her ongoing year.
However, like Azarenka, Yastremska too enjoyed a good hard-court swing. She was a quarterfinalist in WTA Dubai (as a qualifier) and later, the runner-up in Lyon.
Dayana certainly has the intensity needed to match Azarenka’s game – and having played more tennis this season (19-16) – she will fancy her chances of causing an early upset.
