Simona Halep v Anna Kalinskaya Head to Head

World No. 16 Simona Halep moved into the second round of the Washington Open, defeating Spain’s Cristina Bucșa on Monday.
After an early exchange of breaks, Halep broke again in the sixth game before going on to take the first set.
The third seed looked to be cruising in the second set as well, building a 5-2 lead with a double break, but the qualifier broke back twice to draw level at 5-5. The Romanian regrouped and halted Bucsa’s comeback bid to win the contest 6-3, 7-5 in an hour and 21 minutes.
The 30-year-old has been in terrific form recently, reaching the semifinals of her last three tournaments, in Birmingham, Bad Homburg and Wimbledon.
The former No. 1, who has won 23 WTA titles from 41 finals, won her only title of the season at Melbourne Summer Set 1 in January.
This is only her second appearance in Washington. She was out in the quarterfinals in 2017. She will be aiming to reach an eighth quarterfinal of the season with a win in the second round.

Kalinskaya Breezes Past Brengle
World No. 71 Anna Kalinskaya needed just 67 minutes to knock out American Madison Brengle, who is placed 10 spots above her in the rankings.
Kalinskaya was off to a slow start as Brengle broke in the second game of the first set, but the Russian slowly took control of the set and the match. She broke the American thrice in the opening set and then bagelled her in the second for a 6-3, 6-0 victory.
The win improved Kalinskaya to 18-15 from all levels this year. The 23-year-old’s best this season was a semifinal finish in Guadalajara.
On Wednesday, Kalinskaya will be looking to reach a second quarterfinal of the year.
