Paul In Decent Touch

World No. 34 Tommy Paul brings a 25-18 season record into the tournament. He has been in good form recently. After making quarterfinal appearances in Queen’s and Eastbourne, he produced his best-ever result at a Grand Slam, reaching the fourth round at Wimbledon.

The 25-year-old seems to have carried that grass court form to the hard courts of North America, as he made it to the quarterfinals of the Atlanta Open last week. Paul defeated Jack Sock and Kwon Soon-woo in the opening two rounds respectively but fell to Ilya Ivashka at the last eight stage.

Paul’s best this season is a semifinal finish in Delray Beach. He also reached three other hard court quarterfinals in the first quarter, in Adelaide-1, Adelaide-2 and Acapulco.

The American, who won the Stockholm title last year, has a 16-8 record on hard courts this season. In Washington, he has a 5-4 record and was a quarterfinalist on debut in 2017. Last year though, he wend down in the opening round. Will he be able to win a match this season?

Kyrgios Powers Past Giron

Playing a first singles match since finishing runner-up at Wimbledon, Nick Kyrgios looked in sublime form as he powered past Marcos Giron in the opening round on Tuesday.

Although he had not played a singles match since his first major final, he did participate in the doubles event in Atlanta last week and, with Thanasi Kokkinakis, picked up the second doubles title of the season. The pair’s first title came at the Australian Open.

On Tuesday, the 2019 Washington Open champion hit 12 aces and 26 winners during a comfortable 6-3, 6-2 victory in just under an hour. Kyrgios wasn’t broken in the match and he converted half of the six break points that he held to improve to 9-0 in the opening rounds in 2022.

Overall, he is 22-7 this season and that includes three semifinal finishes in Houston, Stuttgart and Halle and a quarterfinal finish in Indian Wells to go along with his runner-up finish to Novak Djokovic at Wimbledon.

The win improved the 27-year-old’s Washington record to 7-2. All his last six wins came during the 2019 campaign when he picked up the title by defeating Daniil Medvedev in the final. The six-time tour-level champion hasn’t won a title since then, but having started the tournament well this year, he has become one of the contenders this year.

Paul v Kyrgios Prediction and Tip

This is going to be an intriguing contest. Paul’s been in decent touch but Kyrgios has been brilliant and the Aussie will also be the favourite in this contest to advance to the Round of 16.

Tip: Kyrgios to win in three sets: 3/1 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
