Emma Raducanu, world number 10 and reigning US Open champion, is off to a decent start in the Citi Open 2022 as she defeated Louisa Chirico 6-4, 6-2.
The number two seed was a bit rusty, however, as she benefited from an astounding 30+ unforced errors from the American. Nonetheless, it’s a positive result and bodes well for her confidence as she moves further.
Her tally is now 10-12; her best season result came in the Indian Wells Open, Stuttgart Open, and Madrid Open, where she made it as far as round three.
Raducanu has also endured a fair share of surprising losses, notably to the likes of Aliaksandra Sasnovich, Caroline Garcia, Anhelina Kalinina, Katerina Siniakova, and Petra Martic.
Here in Washington, under a new partnership with Dmitry Tursunov, Emma is seeking a revival in her fortunes and lucky for her, Osorio is on shaky grounds too.

Osorio Stuns Kenin
It has been quite a season for Colombia’s Camila Osorio. She arrived for the tournament with a tally of 11-11 and a five-match losing streak.
The 20-year-old lost her first-round bouts in Wimbledon, Eastbourne, Birmingham, and Nottingham to Elise Mertens, Lesia Tsurenko, Harriet Dart, and Maria Sakkari.
That said, Osorio has had her moments in the first half of the season. She was the runner-up in Monterrey (the third WTA final of her career) and later, a semifinalist in Bogota.
In Washington, she beat the 2020 Australian Open champion Sofia Kenin 7-6(2), 6-1 to fire warning shots. That kind of performance should lift her spirits and prepare her well to take on someone of Raducanu’s stature.
Raducanu v Osorio Prediction and Tip
Expect this match to go either way. Raducanu’s chances of progressing are certainly a bit higher – given her coaching team, pedigree, and crowd’s support. However, Camila is a skilled athlete who can punch above her weight.
