After getting a first round bye in this competition following his opening defeat at Wimbledon, a rusty-looking Dimitrov came through in a fighting match against Adrian Mannarino.
Dimitrov was on court for two hours and four minutes before completing a 6-1, 3-6, 7-5 victory over Mannarino.
The Bulgarian looked like he was running away with the win when he broke his French opponent twice in two games, winning the first set in just over half hour. Mannarino proved to be a harder nut to crack in the second set and that frustration seemed to be spill over as Dimitrov lost his serve off the only break-point on show in the entire set.
Dimitrov then fell 2-4 behind after losing his serve again but this time around he clawed back back with breaks of serves in the eighth and the 12th game, the second of that happening to love.
The former world number three will hope for an improved showing against a much better opponent next up.

Korda Eases Past Baez
For a player tipped to be the next top-10 player by many a tennis expert, a 16-14 win-loss record for the season might not have gone down too well for Korda. Which is why back to back wins here in Washington, both straight-set ones would have provided him with some respite.
After having defeated Ilya Ivashka in a match that could have gone either ways according to bookmakers, Korda registered another straight-set win in the second round against Sebastian Baez.
Korda won 6-1, 6-4 in a mere 70 minutes, with three breaks of serves from five chances he got. In turn, Korda had two break-points against him but saved both of them and proceeded to set up this meeting with Dimitrov.
The Bulgarian is a far tougher opponent, which is why there seems to be nothing to choose between them. Korda, with some more tennis under his belt and having eased through both his matches, will have the edge.
