It was a routine win for the World No. 1, top seed Daniil Medvedev, as he sailed past Ricardas Berankis 6-2, 6-2. In the opening match in Los Cabos, he defeated Rinky Hijikata to pick up his 250th tour win.
With these wins, the 26-year-old Russian has improved his tally to 29-10. However, the four-time Grand Slam finalist is still seeking his first singles title of the season.
Daniil came close to it thrice – the Australian Open, Rosmalen Championships, and Halle Open. However, he had to settle for the runner-up trophy in all three tournaments.
Nonetheless, Medvedev is well-experienced and boasts an enviable pedigree and form on the ATP Tour. While he hasn’t been entirely immune from losses in 2022, the likes of Kecmanovic should not prove to be that big of a problem.

Kecmanovic Moves Past Nakashima
Number four seed Miomir Kecmanovic, who also started his campaign with a bye into round two, has done well to make it this far.
The Serbian is yet to drop a set as he defeated Jordan Thompson and, most recently, Brandon Nakashima. Now ranked World No. 38, Kecmanovic is up 29-15 and seeking to build on his gains this season.
His best moments of the season are a semifinal stint in Munich and a quarterfinal in the Miami Open, Indian Wells, and ATP Rio. Over the course of the year, Miomir has beaten a few notable names like Matteo Berrettini, Marin Cilic, Taylor Fritz, Jack Sock, Felix Auger-Aliassime, and Lorenzo Sonego.
