Daniil Medvedev v Nick Kyrgios Head to Head

There have been three previous matches between these two players and Kyrgios has won two of them. Medvedev’s win, however, came in their most recent encounter at Australian Open earlier this year where he needed four sets to get past Kyrgios in the second round.

Medvedev Coming off Los Cabos Title Win

In a rather strange turn of events, it’s taken Medvedev around seven months this year before winning his first ATP title. And it came in Los Cabos last week, where he overcame Cameron Norrie in the final to lift the trophy.

Medvedev did not drop a single set in the entire duration of the tournament, and it was only in the final that Norrie did push him a little in the first set. The Russian retaliated with a second set bagel and with that the match and title in the bag.

Coming into this tournament, Medvedev will know this is an important battle on multiple counts.

One, Medvedev would be looking to enter US Open in about three weeks from with a Masters title win – this week or the next in Cincinnati – as the world number one. More vitally, with the kind of form Kyrgios is in, it would prepare him for those battles ahead too.

Kyrgios Continues Winning Streak

Kyrgios has always been a talented player but his career hasn’t quite taken off in the manner in which many a tennis expert would like us to believe. This season, however, Kyrgios has combined his talent with the kind of consistency which could make him one of the best in the world very soon.

This year, he has won 28 of the 35 matches he’s played, which includes a title win in Washington last week, and a straight-set rout of Sebastian Baez in the first round here.

In a match lasting an hour and 26 minutes, Kyrgios claimed a 6-4, 6-4 win over his Argentine opponent, dropping his serve once in the process but breaking his opponent three times in return.

Medvedev will be a different kettle of fish but Kyrgios will enter this match on the back of a lot of confidence.
