It’s 1-1 from their two previous meetings. Nishioka won in Sydney in 2019 and Rublev won at the ATP Cup last year.

Rublev Tames Wolf
Top seed Andrey Rublev continued his march at the Washington Open, reaching the semifinal with a straight sets win over American J.J. Wolf on Friday.
This will be the seventh time this season that the World No. 8 will be featuring in a semifinal. In the quarterfinal against Wolf, Rublev saved all four break points that he faced during the match, while breaking his opponent twice in the first and twice in the second set for a 6-2, 6-3 win.
Earlier in the day, Rublev had beaten another American Maxime Cressy in the Round of 16 after their match was suspended on Thursday due to rains. Rublev wasn’t broken in that match either as he saved the only break point that he faced and converted 1 of 3 to take the one hour and 43 minute contest 6-4, 7-6 (8-6).
The top seed, who received a first round bye, is yet to be broken this week. He had begun his campaign with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Jack Draper in the second round. The Briton held two break points in that match, but the Russian saved both.
An 11-time tour-level champion, Rublev will be aiming to reach a 17th ATP final on Saturday. He has an 8-2 record in hard court finals.
This year, the 24-year-old has already featured in three finals and has a 100% success rate, winning the title in Marseille, Dubai and Belgrade.
A semifinalist in Washington in 2018, can he make the final this year?

Nishioka Outlasts Evans
Japan’s Yoshihito Nishioka took down a seeded player for a third time in the tournament to advance to the final four in Washington.
The 26-year-old lefty put up a gutsy show in the quarterfinal on Friday, needing three hours and 36 minutes to eliminate the Briton 7-6 (7-5), 4-6, 7-5.
The World No. 96 saved 9 of 14 break points and converted 5 of 11 to knock out the World no. 40 and advance to a first semifinal of the season. Nishioka’s best this year was a quarterfinal finish in Acapulco.
He had come into the tournament with a 5-10 season record, but that has improved to 9-10 over the course of four rounds. Nihioka started his campaign with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Jenson Brooksby in the first round. In the next round, he rallied from a set down to beat 11th seed Alex de Mianur 3-6, 7-6, 6-2. His next win came against the seventh seed Karen Khachanov, defeating the Russian in two straight tiebreaks in the Round of 16.
Can the 2018 Shenzhen Open champion, reach a third final of his career? He had also reach the final in Delray Beach in 2020, only to finish runner-up in the tournament.
Rublev v Nishioka Prediction and Tip
Rublev has been in good touch throughout the season and the top seed will be the favourite to win this contest. Nishioka has done extremely well to reach this far and may make it a bit tough for the Russian but eventually Rublev should come through.
