Grigor Dimitrov v Alexis Galarneau Head to Head

This will be their first meeting.

Dimitrov’s Mixed Washington Outing

Grigor Dimitrov opted for Washington as his preparation event for this one but it was a mixed experience. He defeated Adrian Mannarino after three sets in round two but then lost to Sebastian Korda. The loss itself is not bad but the way it happened is.

Dimitrov won the opening set but started to falter in the second one. Rain stopped the match and it continued tomorrow. Korda added another break in the 2nd set to finish it off 6-1 and then smashed Dimitrov 6-2 in the final set.

Despite having an entire day to prepare how to win another set against Korda, Dimitrov got blown off the court easily. Korda is a strong player but Dimitrov is ranked inside the top 20 and his talent should at least make matches like these competitive.

It’s been generally a lacklustre year for him. The record is okay at 19-14 but his play has just been kind of meh. It’s clear that he’s not playing his best and he probably never will again but at 31 Dimitrov should still be capable of deep runs at events.

Wild Card for Galarneau

Alexis Galarneau is not a top talent but the Canadian is working his way towards the top and it’s been going pretty decently. He will never be on the level of a Shapovalov or Auger but he’ll certainly have the crowd backing him as a native from Montreal.

Similar to Auger, Galarneau grew up around Montreal and getting a chance to play on these courts should certainly be a dream come true for him. He’ll arrive in Montreal in pretty strong shape after playing a challenger event in Winnipeg and reaching the final.

How far he can go will mostly depend on how well he plays. Theoretically, he should play relaxed as he’s got nothing to lose but that only applies in theory. With family and friends in attendance, there is a chance that he might get a bit nervous which could impact his play.

Hard courts are his best surface as his serve is powerful and he needs it to play well. It’s been a good year for him with a 27-19 record so far.

Dimitrov v Galarneau Prediction and Tip

I think this will be a tricky affair for Dimitrov but I do think he’ll get it done. I could see the Canadian taking a set but I do think Dimitrov will be able to get this done. Even if it goes to three.

Tip: Dimitrov to win in three sets: 3/1 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
