Petra Kvitova v Alison Riske Head to Head
There have been three previous meetings between these two and surprisingly it is Riske who leads 2-1 on head to head. All three matches came in hard court competitions.
The first two meetings came in 2013 though where Riske won at the US Open while Kvitova had earlier defeated her in New Haven.
In 2019 they faced off yet again in Wuhan and Riske had won that semifinal in straight sets.

There are probably two ways to look at Kvitova’s performances this season.
One, despite her struggles for form, she has won a WTA title, something she has done every season except the pandemic-curtailed 2020. This came at Rosmalen on grass.
The other is that despite lifting that trophy, Kvitova’s overall record this year is a modest 17-14 on win-loss which includes a first round loss at the Australian Open, second round defeat at the French Open and a third loss at Wimbledon.
And add her performances in hard court competitions where Kvitova has won just eight of her 15 matches, and we are looking at the kind of showing she would be very disappointed with.

Riske Shocked by Mandlik
Elizabeth Mandlik is just 21 and has a career-best ranking of 238th in the world. Riske, on the other hand, has improved to 33rd in the world with solid showings in recent times.
Which is why it came as a huge surprise when Mandlik sent Riske packing from the first round of the San Jose Open, defeating her in a shocking straight sets. A 6-3, 6-3 win helped Mandlik push Riske back in her first match in the run-up to the US Open.
Earlier this year Riske had made it to the final of the Nottingham Open on grass while her best showing in hard court competitions saw her finishing a finalist in Adelaide and a quarterfinalist in Miami.
This is a tricky first round encounter for Riske but that’s how the draw sometimes works. The good news for the American is that Kvitova herself isn’t in the best of forms.
Kvitova v Riske Prediction and Tip
This won’t be as straightforward as the odds suggest with Kvitova starting out at 3/5. We believe at 7/5, Riske is good value, and backing her to come through. A less risky bet would be for the American to snatch a set.
