No previous matches have been played between Marino and Zheng before this opening round encounter.

A qualifier at the Washington Open last week, Marino made it through to the last eight stage of that competition in what turned out to be a surprise result for the Canadian.
At the time of writing, Marino is ranked 111th in the world but by the time the new rankings are released next week, she would have jumped up to 96th on the WTA charts.
She has a career-best ranking of 38th at one point in her stage so this is nothing new for her but will get her closer to make the US Open direct entry.
Marino overcame Venus Williams and Andrea Petkovic in the first two rounds at Washington but should have done a lot better than her straight-set loss to Daria Saville in the quarterfinals.
Up against her is an in-form player who will be one tough challenge for the Canadian though.

Zheng Goes Down Fighting to Osaka
Having gotten herself a direct entry at the Washington Open, Zheng fell at the very first hurdle but not before she had given multiple Grand Slam winner Naomi Osaka a bit of a fright.
Osaka had entered the competition quite rusty obviously but Zheng did put up a solid display before losing 6-4, 3-6, 6-1 in the opener.
What Zheng needs to now do is try and shrug off what was her third successive defeat on hard courts, having gone down in back to back matches in Indian Wells and Miami way back in March.
A semifinalist at the Melbourne Summer Set 1 earlier this year, Zheng will now hope to carve out her first win in her maiden appearance in this competition.
