Alize Cornet v Caroline Garcia Head to Head

There have been five previous meetings between these two players at the highest level and Garcia leads narrowly 3-2.

Two of these matches have come in hard court competitions and both players have won one apiece.

Their last meeting came at the Bad Homburg Open earlier this year, on clay and it was Garcia who won a tough three-setter.

Cornet 6-7 on Hard Courts This Year

It has been a forgettable year for Cornet with just 16 wins overall to go with 17 defeats. On hard court surfaces, Cornet has won six matches to her seven defeats but what makes that more interesting is she started off the season at the Australian Open with one of her best Grand Slam showings.

Having never gone beyond the fourth round in a Grand Slam throughout her career, Cornet overcame Garbine Muguruza and Simona Halep en route a place in the last eight. She lost to Danielle Collins in the quarterfinals.

Since then, however, Cornet has won just two matches in hard court competitions including a first round victory at the Prague Open in the last week of July.

Her loss to the 94th-ranked Linda Noskova in the second underlined her consistency issues all season.

Garcia Soaring This Year

While hard court surfaces aren’t quite Garcia’s thing, not this season at least, the world number 32 has had a season to remember in sharp contrast to Cornet.

Garcia will be entering the US Open on the back of a 3-7 win-loss record on hard courts but with two WTA titles under her belt. One of those two came the last time Garcia was on court, taking on the might of the world in Poland.

And it was a well-deserved title too, with Garcia stopping the world number one Iga Swiatek’s clay court run in her own backyard.

What needs to be seen is if Garcia can translate that form in a hard court competition, especially given she is facing a player woefully out of form.

Expect the 2017 quarterfinalist in this tournament to hold a slight edge.

Cornet v Garcia Prediction and Tip

Garcia starts off a 1/2 favourite but we think the battle could be a lot closer with a three-setter expected here.

Tip: Three sets in the match: 6/4 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
