Amanda Anisimova v Carol Zhao Head to Head

Amanda Anisimova has displayed excellent form this season. The 20-year-old American began the year by winning her second WTA title in Melbourne.
She didn’t win any other title this year, but the Wimbledon quarterfinalist featured in the semifinals in Charleston and the quarterfinals in Madrid, Rome, Bad Homburg and in San Jose this week.
Anisimova defeated Ashlyn Krueger and Karolína Plíšková in her opening two rounds in San Jose but fell to Shelby Rogers in the last eight.
The World no. 22 brings a a 31-12 season record into the tournament. Last year, she came through the qualifiers to make her main draw debut in Toronto. Anisimova then went on to win the first two rounds but lost to Plíšková in the third round.
Although she is unseeded this year, she will be a player to watch. However, she has a tough draw and will meet either Pliskova or Barbora Krejcikova in the second round.

Zhao Has a Huge Task in Hand
Carol Zhau will be playing in the main draw in Toronto for the third time.
The 27-year-old Canadian has performed well at the ITF level this year, winning a hard court title in Incheon and a clay court title in Charleston.
Zhao has an overall season record of 27-14 across levels. Most recently, the World no. 185 played in San Jose, losing in the first qualifying round to Kayla Day.
Zhao is 17-9 on hard courts this year. Apart from winning the ITF title in Incheon, she also made a semifinal appearance in Cancun and two quarterfinal appearances.
In her previous two main draw appearances in Toronto, Zhao lost in the opening rounds in 2013 and 2015.

Anisimova is the overwhelming favourite. Expect her to make a brisk start in the first round.
