Nick Kyrgios v Yoshihito Nishioka Head to Head

This is bit of a one-sided rivalry. The two players have faced off four times and Kyrgios has won each time including three times in hard court tournaments.

Their last meeting came at this very tournament in 2019 where Kyrgios ran away to a straight-set victory.

Kyrgios Continues Good Form

Mikael Ymer was a surprise semifinalist but that’s where the buck stopped for the Swede as Kyrgios took him down in straight sets to set up his second final in as many tournaments.

Kyrgios, who had reached the title-decider at Wimbledon last month, stormed into another one this week as he overcame Ymer 7-6 (4), 6-3. The match lasted an hour and 36 minutes.

Blasting 10 aces in the encounter, Kyrgios did not face a single break-point and while he did have his own issues overcoming the Ymer serve, the Aussie managed to hold his nerve well.

In the opening tie-breaker, for instance, things could have gone either way at four points apiece but Kyrgios ran away with the next three points to take the lead.

And then again, when the pressure was mounting, Kyrgios broke Ymer – his only break – in the eighth game of the second set before serving it out.

Can Kyrgios now complete his unfinished business from Wimbledon and win his first title since 2019. Incidentally, it was in Washington he had won that one too.

Nishioka Has a Week to Remember

Come Sunday, whatever the result of the final, Nishioka will know he has played the best tennis of his career this week. Because the 96th-ranked Japanese player has beaten five excellent players in their own right, to get to this stage including the 1/5 favourite Andrey Rublev in the semifinal.

Nishioka was at his clinical best in his one hour, 21 minute rout of Rublev, as he registered a 6-3, 6-4 victory over the Russian.

Earlier in the tournament, Nishioka had defeated the who’s who of the world tennis from outside the top 10 – it started with a straight-set crushing of Jenson Brooksby, a comeback from behind win over Alex de Minaur, two tie-breaker victory against Karen Khachanov and a fighting three-setter against Dan Evans.

Against Kyrgios, Nishioka will know he might not have too much of a chance but knowing the temperamental issues that his opponents sometimes could endure, he will want to keep fighting the way he has all week.

Kyrgios v Nishioka Prediction and Tip

Kyrgios should have this in his pocket and in straight sets too. For all of Nishioka’s performances this week, the previous head to head with Kyrgios and the Aussie’s brilliant form should be enough for his fairy-tale to end.

Tip: Kyrgios to win in straight sets: 3/5 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
