Bautista Agut Has Produced Decent Results This Year
It’s turning out to be another solid year for the versatile Roberto Bautista Agut. He has won a title and played a team final on hard court, finished runner-up in a grass court tournament, and most recently picked up his 11th ATP title by winning a second clay court tournament of his career in Kitzbuhel.
The World No. 18, who beat surprise finalist Filip Misolic in the Austrian Open final two weeks ago, has a 27-11 season record. His other title this year came in Doha, where he beat Nikoloz Basilashvili in the final to win his eighth hard court title.
Hard courts have always been the most productive surface for the Spaniard, who also played in the final of the ATP Cup, but couldn’t lead his side to title success as Spain fell to Canada in the final. Another highlight of the season for the 34-year-old was a runner-up finish on grass in Mallorca.
Bautista Agut, who has a 14-6 record on hard courts this year, has a 9-5 record in Montreal. He has been a quarterfinalist in the last three editions that he featured in (2017, 2019 and 2021). Can he better that this year?

Giron Comes Through Qualifiers
World No. 53 Marcos Giron qualified for his maiden main draw appearance at the Canadian Open.
In what’s been an up and down season for the American, Giron qualified for Montreal with a three set win over Alexei Popyrin in the second qualifying round on Sunday.
The 29-year-old missed out on two match points in the second set tiebreak allowing the Aussie to stay in the contest, but he eventually took control of the match in the final set to beat Popyrin 6-4, 6-7 (10-12), 6-1. In the first qualifying round, Giron had defeated Jason Kubler 7-6, 6-3 on Saturday.
The most notable performances for Giron this season include a semifinal finish in Dallas, quarterfinal finishes in Acapulco and Mallorca and a run to the Round of 16 in Rome. But apart from those high points, there have been plenty of lows, including 16 first round defeats.
He has an overall record of 11-21 this season, and has lost his last three main draw matches. Can he begin with a win on Monday?
Bautista Agut v Giron Prediction and Tip
Although he will be playing on hard after a while, Bautista Agut will still be the favourite to advance into the next round. Giron could take it to three but the Spaniard should come through.
