Manarino Rallies Past Kwon Soon-woo
Adrian Mannarino came back from a set down to beat Korea’s Kwon Soon-woo in the second qualifying round on Sunday to enter the main draw of the Canadian Open.
The left-handed Frenchman, who comes into the tournament with an 18-18 record, could barely win 9 of the 33 points in the first set, but made a strong comeback to beat the World No. 77, 1-6, 6-4, 6-3.
Mannarino had beaten Australia’s Max Purcell 7-5, 7-6 (8-6) in the first qualifying round on Saturday.
The 34-year-old Frenchman has a 5-5 record in Canada, with his best being a quarterfinal finish in 2017.
This year, his best came in the Rosmalen Open, where he was a semifinalist. He also featured in four other quarterfinals, all on hard courts in Montpellier, Dallas, Delray Beach and most recently in Atlanta. Mannarino is 14-12 on hard courts this year and will be hoping to improve that record in Montreal.

Rinderknech To Make Main Draw Debut
Following a tough three-set win in the first qualifying round, Arthur Runderknech may have needed just two set sets win his second qualifying round on Sunday, but the 6-4, 6-4 win over Taro Daniel was anything but easy for the Frenchman.
Rinderknech saved 6 of 8 break points and converted 4 of 11 to stave off the Japanese and advance to the main draw of the Canadian Open for the first time in his career.
Rinderknech had beaten Canada’s Juan Carlos Aguilar 6-3, 6-7 (8-10), 6-4 in the first qualifying round, which lasted just under three hours.
The 27-year-old Frenchman, who had a promising start to the season, finishing runner-up in Adelaide-2 and making the semifinals in Doha, struggled to keep the momentum going. He did win a Challenger event on clay in Poznan but failed to win consistently at the Tour level. He brings a 12-12 record to Montreal. Can he make an early impression?
Mannarino v Rinderknech Prediction and Tip
Mannarino’s form on hard courts and his experience both give him the edge in this contest. This could see three sets, with Mannarino advancing.
