Taylor Fritz v Frances Tiafoe Head to Head
There have been four previous matches between these two players and Fritz has won three of those with Tiafoe having defeated his opponent in the first meeting in Indian Wells in 2016. All four matches came on hard court surfaces, indoor and outdoors.
They had faced off earlier this year at the Australian Open too, with Fritz winning in straight sets.

Andy Murray hasn’t had a lot going for him in recent weeks and Fritz added to his agony in this opening round in Montreal as he came away with an easy opening round win.
Fritz was on court for less than a hour and half as he disposed off the Brit 6-1, 6-3 to move into the second round.
Facing just one break-point in the entire match, Fritz saved it easily while at the same time breaking Murray four times in the encounter to come away an easy winner.
This win follows Fritz’s third round loss in Washington which came after his quarterfinal appearance at Wimbledon. Can the world number 13 try and go deep here and break into the top 10 of the rankings for the first time in his career?

Tiafoe Struggles Past Bonzi
It took Tiafoe some time to get into his rhythm but eventually he did just that to make it through his sticky first round encounter against Benjamin Bonzi.
Tiafoe won 6-7 (6), 7-5, 6-3 in two hours and 37 minutes, clawing back from missing out on a set-point in the opening set to win the next two and the match.
What was interesting to note is that Tiafoe faced five break-points but held on firmly to ward off all of them, and in turn won two breaks of serves – one apiece in the final two sets.
More vitally from the perspective of his upcoming battle, Tiafoe also missed out on eight other opportunities to break his opponent’s serve and that’s something he will want to work on for the Fritz match.
Fritz v Tiafoe Prediction and Tip
Fritz is a heavy favourite given his form and his hold on Tiafoe. Expecting a tough battle though which could either see a couple of long sets or a three-setter.
