Belinda Bencic v Serena Williams
Belinda Bencic will get another chance to play Serena Williams with the legendary player set to retire at the US Open later this month. Williams played a pretty decent match to win her round one matchup but proved that the legend is far from her best. The serve saved her in that matchup and it’s something she will need to rely upon again.
Bencic did well in her round one matchup and it’s not a surprise. The Swiss player is an excellent hard court player and she generally plays really well in this part of the season. Bencic’s best grand slam result came at the US Open and she generally does really well.
The swiss player has a couple of things on her side. She generally does return well and she moves well around the court. There is plenty of stamina there for Bencic who can certainly outlast Williams in a long contest and on paper, she simply should cruise here.
However, this is Serena Williams who is playing her final events on the Tour. She is not going to go out that easily and I expect somewhat of a close match. Maybe not three sets but two close ones with Bencic emerging as the victor.
Tip: Over 20.5 Games, Bencic to Win: 3/1 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
Pablo Carreno Busta v Holger Rune
A very fascinating matchup will happen in Montreal later this day as Pablo Carreno Busta takes on Holger Rune. Busta opened his campaign with a superb display that saw Matteo Berrettini smacked in two easy sets. The Italian looked very uncomfortable as Busta combined a blend of offensive and defensive play with the occasional net play as well.
Rune took on Fabio Fognin and the Dane proved too much to handle for Fognini who is slowly on the demise as he admitted recently that retirement is not that far away. Fognini could be playing his last season and while his level is still solid, it’s getting obvious that he can’t keep up with some of the youngest on the Tour.
Rune served well and it gave him plenty of free points and it’s something that’s important for him. He played well at the US Open last year and every point he can get is important. He had a shocking run of form after Roland Garros losing many matches in a row.
He got a win in Washington and now one here so it’s expected for him to continue. However, the opponent will be a tricky one as he faces a player who beat him twice already. The most recent one was in Halle this year and I expect Busta to get another win here.
Tip: Carreno Busta to win in straight sets: 3/4 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
Taylor Fritz v Frances Tiafoe
A couple of Americans will take on each other on Canadian land and it’s Fritz against Tiafoe. They know each other well, they practised many times together and there will be very few surprises in this matchup. Both should do well in these conditions with a powerful serve and pretty solid groundstrokes.
Fritz is the better player as of now having had more success in his career generally and in their H2H. Four matches happened before this one will and Taylor leads 3-1. The most recent one came at this year’s Australian Open with Fritz winning in straight sets.
Fritz easily bested Andy Murray in the previous round while Tiafoe played Bonzi. The American complicated that match considerably, especially after squandering a 5-0 lead in the first set tiebreak. That sort of thing can’t happen against Fritz because he will punish it harder than Bonzi did.
Despite Fritz being a heavy favourite in this one for multiple reasons I do expect a very tight and tough battle. Tiafoe enjoys great crowd support and he usually shows up for the crowd. We’ll see plenty of aces, maybe a tiebreak, very few breaks of serve and a competitive match. Purely instinctively, I will take Tiafoe to win.
Tip: Tiafoe to win AND Over 21.5 games in the match: 1/2 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
