Halep Zooms Past Zhang
It took Halep some time to get going in the first set but she came through in straight sets in her second round win over Shuai Zhang.
Halep won 6-4, 6-2 in an hour and 12 minutes against Zhang after having dropped just two games in her opening round win over Donna Vekic.
The former world number one raced off to a 3-0 lead with two breaks of serves in the first set and while Zhang did pull both the breaks back to level things out at 4-4, Halep was back again to break her opponent in the ninth game. This time around though she served it out to clinch the set.
In the second, Help did not allow Zhang any such comeback liberties. Having broken her early again, Halep held on to her serve before making it two breaks of serve and completing her 18th hard court win for the year to go with just five losses.

Teichmann Eases Past Kontaveit
Teichmann caused the biggest surprise of the second round of matches at the Canadian Open when she sent the world number two Anett Kontaveit packing from the competition.
The Swiss player, who had earlier gotten past Venus Williams in her opener, registered a 6-4, 6-4 win over Kontaveit to race into the third round.
Teichmann broke early in the opening set, before getting broken back for things to be levelled out at 3-3. Immediately after that, Teichmann got better of her Estonian opponent’s serve again but this time around she held on to her own to take the lead.
In the second, it was Kontaveit who raced to a 2-0 lead but dropped her serve in the third and fifth game. Teichmann didn’t face a single break-point after that and completed the victory, following on from successive wins in Dubai and Doha.
