Aryna Sabalenka v Coco Gauff
Despite committing dozens of double faults every match, Aryna Sabalenka is somehow grinding out wins. The Belarussian started off her Toronto campaign with a match against Sara Sorribes Tormo and it was a lengthy affair despite going only for two sets.
Sabalenka was able to get the win despite committing 16 double faults. She did hit 4 aces as well but her serving woes continue to persist since the start of the season. She’s gotten better at not allowing them to cost as she continues to play pretty well from the baseline.
A player who could easily absorb all that pressure in Coco Gauff and she’s done so in the past. Gauff leads Sabalenka 2-1 in H2H matchups and generally plays her really well. Even her only defeat came after she had an epic collapse after being inches away from victory.
I do think this will be a close one, probably in three sets but I also think Gauff will do enough to win. Sabalenka has struggled against her in the past and the double faults generally cost her against better players.
Tip: Gauff to win in three sets: 3/1 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
Nick Kyrgios v Alex de Minaur
Nick Kyrgios continues to shine on the court as the Australian added an impressive win over Medvedev in Montreal. It was not the best Medvedev can offer but it comes after a trophy run in Los Cabos so you can’t argue that he was rusty.
It was just a smart plan executed well and quite frankly, it was something right out of Medvedev’s playbook. Aggressive and deep returns destroyed the Russian in the final set. Kyrgios also never got broken in this match either so he was able to keep the number one player away from breaking him.
That’s just incredibly impressive and he can continue playing this way as long as he feels fresh. He played too much tennis lately and eventually it will catch up with him. De Minaur shined in Montreal as well with two straight-set wins over Dimitrov and Shapovalov.
The Aussie can hurt Kyrgios with his defensive skills and he’ll have a decent shot here, especially if Kyrgios is fatigued. Interesentinyl enough, they never played against each other despite playing many times for the same team. They know each other well and it should be a good win. The winner? How can you not back Kyrgios when he’s playing like this?
Tip: Kyrgios to win: 1/2 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
Gael Monfils v Jack Draper
Jack the Lad made an appearance in Montreal as Jack Draper proved better than Stefanos Tsitsipas in a two-hour straight sets win. It was a stunning display from the young Brit whose hard court game has evolved tremendously this year with 4 challenger trophies as well.
He dished out 21 winners committing only 17 unforced errors against a very nervous Tsitsipas who errored his way out of Montreal. The Greek had 37 of them and Draper looked comfortable as ever. He’ll have a chance to keep up that solid play against veteran Gael Monfils who is looking very solid in his own right.
Monfils played well on hard courts earlier this year so two solid wins here are not strange. The Cressy test was a stern one and he was able to pass it with flying colours. Doesn’t get any easier for him as a very confident Draper stands between him and a quarterfinal one.
This is a fitness test for Monfils as he looks to prove he still belongs against a youngster who could certainly outlast him in a physical clash in the heat. Backing either player is a fine play but we’re thinking of a competitive match that could see a tiebreak or two.
