Nick Kyrgios v Hubert Hurkacz
Nick Kyrgios is continuing to play superb tennis this year and he showed it once more against his compatriot Alex de Minaur. Only 23 minutes were needed for the first set and a bit more for the 2nd as the Australian cruised 6-2 6-3 into a quarterfinal. He did get broken twice but he destroyed de Minaur with his return.
Nick is now 24-1 in his last 25 matches. 16 of those were in singles and he’s 15-1 and 8 were in doubles and he’s 8-0. Just an incredible level of tennis from the Australian on these hard courts. He blasted numerous winners against de Minaur and added over 10 aces as well. He’s just playing the best and more importantly, most consistent tennis he has ever played
That can’t be said for Hubert Hurkacz who grew up on these courts. The Polish player started shaky in Washington and while playing better in Montreal, it’s still not as good as it can be. Both of his wins were in three sets and both were close ones that he could have lost.
He did beat Kyrgios in Halle earlier this year in another close battle and we’re probably going to see another one but back Kyrgios. He’s too good right now.
Tip: Kyrgios to win in straight sets: 3/1 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
Coco Gauff v Simona Halep
A fabulous matchup on paper with fans hoping it delivers the sort of tennis these two are capable of playing. Gauff had a tough road to get into the quarterfinal but she was able to battle and win. Rybakina and Sabalenka are similar players yet also quite different and she was able to adapt to both.
Gauff hasn’t had much success against Halep in the past losing all three matches they played but she’s a much better player right now. Perhaps it’s time for that first win? Halep is certainly playing good tennis right now but is it her best? I’m not so sure. There is a tendency to complicate things and it’s a trait she shares with Gauff.
The American had to play two added sets because of her inability to close out matches and Halep has had some of those issues as well. This promises to be a very up-and-down affair for both with many momentum swings. The experience of Halep should give her an advantage in those key moments I do think she will win.
However, the safer bet is to simply back them to play three sets. Both will be solid and neither will give an inch so expect a long and tough battle with Halep getting the win in the end.
Tip: Three sets in the match: 6/4 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
Casper Ruud v Felix Auger-Aliassime
Casper Ruud and Felix Auger-Aliassime played four times in the past with the score being tied 2-2. Somebody will move ahead in that H2H after today and betting odds favour Auger. There is some reasoning behind that as Auger has played really well in his first two matches here.
He’s playing at home and he’s looking very sharp and comfortable. The serve is good, the return is working, he’s moving well and the groundstrokes are working. It’s quite ismilar to how Ruud is doing but the Norwegian had faced more issues in his matches.
The matchup is a good one as both are similar players on a similar level. On hard courts, Auger should have the slight advantage while on clay courts it’s Ruud all day. Auger also has a better serve and that might prove crucial in these courts.
It’s a tough one and one that could go either way. I’ll back Auger simply because he’s at home and looked a bit sturdier overall.
Tip: Auger-Aliassime to win: 8/11 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
