Baez on a Five-Match Losing Streak
A clay court specialist, Baez has really struggled to get going in hard court competitions this year. In the eight such tournaments he has been a part of all season, Baez has won a sum total of two main draw matches and none since he reached the second round at Australian Open.
That is nearly seven months ago.
In that period, Baez has played at the Indian Wells Masters and Miami Masters in March, and the Washington Open and Montreal this month. Rubbing salts to the wounds, Baez didn’t even won a round at a Challenger competition he had played on hard courts earlier this year.
Up against Fritz here, Baez will hope for the best but given his form over this entire season and his general disposition away from clay, things won’t get any easier.
