Madison Keys v Yulia Putintseva Head to Head
There have been two previous meetings between the pair. Putintseva won their only hard-court meeting in Tokyo back in 2016, before Keys levelled up the series with a victory at Roland Garros in 2018.

Cincinnati was the scene of Madison Keys’ biggest career victory in 2019, and featured some stunning wins over the likes of Simona Halep and Venus Williams. The American returns this year as one of the big unseeded threats in the womens draw.
2022 has been a resurgent year for the American, who fell down to 87 in the world rankings in January, her lowest since she was a teenager. Keys is now ranked inside the world’s top 30 again, following a strong start to the season which featured a semi-final run at the Australian Open and a title in Adelaide.
Since February, Keys has struggled to find consistency. An abdominal injury sustained in Eastbourne kept her out of Wimbledon, where she w0uld have fancied her chances, and the former world number seven has struggled in San Jose and Toronto on the hard courts since.
Despite some poor results over the last few weeks, Keys comes into two of her favourite tournaments, Cincinnati and the US Open, with fond memories. Her game is well suited to these conditions, but with heavy reliance on her serve in particular, she will hope that her injury woes are behind her.

Putintseva Comes in Hot from Toronto
Yulia Putintseva will hope to draw on her joint best showing at a WTA 1000 event in Toronto last week, where she reached the quarter finals. The feisty Kazakh will be an intriguing test for Keys in the opening round in Cincinnati.
Putintseva has enjoyed another steady season on tour. Ranked inside the world’s top 50, the 27-year-old has not dropped outside the top 100 since 2015. Her most impressive victories in 2022 have come against the likes of Garbine Muguruza, Paula Badosa and Angelique Kerber.
Despite her diminutive nature, the former world number 27 packs a punch on the court with her game and her personality. This will be a tough task for Keys, who is still on her way back from an injury, against someone who will lengthen the rallies and neutralises the big weapons of the Americans’ game.
Keys v Putintseva Prediction and Tip
Despite a successful week in Toronto, it would be surprising if Putintseva could back it up with a win against Keys, who should find her feet once again in a place she knows extremely well.
