With six Australian Open titles under his belt, Djokovic is tied at the top spot with Roger Federer. This means a win here against Nadal will ensure it’s his record-breaking seventh Australian Open win.
Nadal, on the other hand, has won just one at the Australian Open but if he does clinch it here, he will become the first player in the Open era to win each of the four Grand Slam titles on two separate occasions.
Only one of these players will go home with the record.

What also needs tor be seen is how things have gone in the recent times for both of them.
We all know Djokovic’s story. There were times in 2018, by his own admission that the Serbian world number one thought of quitting the sport because of his fitness issues. And then all of a sudden, the Wimbledon and US Open titles of 2018 were won and all seemed to be forgotten.
Since then there have been the odd sign of Djokovic having a struggle or two during a match, like when he didn’t make the final at the Qatar Open earlier this year or when he was stretched to four sets in two of the matches at this tournament but one look at how he went in his semi-final against Lucas Pouille should be enough to put fear in most oppositions.
However, Nadal isn’t a definition of “most opponents” and while he is 25-27 on head to head against Djokovic, he has done enough in this tournament to give himself that shot. His service seems to have changed and that’s reflected in the way he has clinically destroyed his opponents.
So much he left Stefanos Tsitsipas in a great shock in the semi-final after the Greek had himself got the better of Roger Federer in round four.
