Simona Halep v Beatriz Haddad Maia Head to Head

There have been three previous meetings between these players with Halep leading 2-1 on head to head.

Two of these matches have come on grass where both of them have won one apiece, with Halep triumphing at the 2017 Wimbledon and Haddad Maia in Birmingham earlier this year.

Their other match-up came at the Australian Open earlier this season and Halep come away a 6-0, 6-2 winner.

Halep Makes Comeback Win

After having won four successive matches in straight sets, Halep needed to overcome a one set deficit before defeating Jessica Pegula and reaching the final of this tournament for the fourth time in her career.

Halep, who has won the Canadian Open before, defeated Pegula 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 in a match lasting two hours and 14 minutes.

Both players earned them five breaks of serves in the encounter but Halep got her most important one in the fifth and seventh games of the final set. While Pegula managed to pull one of them back, Halep held on to her serve and soon clinched the encounter.

She had earlier defeated Cori Gauff in one of the biggest scalps of the competition. Can she temper Haddad Maia’s solid form here?

Haddad Maia to Debut in Top 20

By making it to the final here, even a defeat to Halep cannot stop Haddad Maia from breaking into the top 20 on the WTA Rankings charts.

And she fully deserves it given the kind of season the Brazilian has had, having won three titles including two on grass and one on clay. Not to mention the kind of run she has had in this tournament alone where Haddad Maia has downed Leylah Fernandez, Iga Swiatek, Belinda Bencic and Karolina Pliskova to reach the final.

In her last match, it was Pliskova who was at the receiving end of her tennis wrath, falling in a two hour, three minutes encounter. Haddad Maia won 6-4, 7-6 (7) to each the final.

Haddad Maia earned herself a couple of early breaks in the first set which proved to be enough for her to seal the lead.

She then prevailed on the Pliskova serve even as the Czech served to level the match in the second set, saved a set-point in the tie-breaker that followed before closing it out on her second match-point.

Can she now add another feather to her hat?

Halep v Haddad Maia Prediction and Tip

While Halep’s experience should help, Haddad Maia is in the kind of form that makes her an irresistible favourite. Backing her to clinch this.
