Naomi Osaka v Shuai Zhang Head to Head
There have been five previous meetings between these two players and Osaka leads 3-2 on head to head. Their last match, however, came in 2018.
On hard court surfaces, Osaka leads 2-1.

Osaka had returned to hard court tennis in San Jose with a first round win over Qinwen Zheng but Cori Gauff got the better of her in the second round in straight sets.
And when she had to retire from her opening round encounter in Toronto, down a set and 3-0 against Kaia Kanepi, questions would have been raised about Osaka’s chances at the US Open.
The good news is she is now back the very next week as she takes to court for her opening round encounter in Cincinnati.
That, however, is only a small part of the story. How Osaka goes about her business needs to be seen too, given all the off and on court issues that have dogged her in recent times.
She does start off a heavy favourite against her Chinese opponent though.

Zhang’s Won Just One Match in Cincinnati
Since making her maiden appearance at the Cincinnati Open in 2011, Zhang has won just one main draw match in this tournament and that victory had come way back in 2014.
Two opening defeats and one qualifier loss have followed since.
As far as hard court competitions go, this has been an interesting year for Zhang. While on the other hand she has won a title indoors, there have been just seven other victories outdoors to go with nine defeats.
Zhang won her opener at the Canadian Open last week but was sent packing by the eventual winner Simona Halep in the second. Can she come up with a stronger showing against Osaka?
