Marcos Giron v David Goffin Head to Head
Their only previous meeting came at the 2020 Antwerp Open and it was Giron who had run away to a straight-set victory in that encounter.

In what has been a forgettable season overall for Giron, the American has won just three matches in outdoor hard court competitions while losing 10 matches to go with that.
And coming into this tournament in Cincinnati, Giron is also on a four-match losing streak, having fallen in the second round at Wimbledon to Alex Molcan and proceeding to losing his openers at Atlanta, Washington and Montreal.
The last three losses come as a part of the US Open Series, and while that hasn’t affected Giron’s ranking too much, it would be interesting to see if it’s caused any confidence-dents.
Up against a player who has had his own form issues, qualifier Giron could consider this a good opportunity to stall his successive losses.

Goffin Also Aiming to Shrug off Losing Streak
Unlike Giron, Goffin managed a solid run at Wimbledon this season, as he overcame Frances Tiafoe on his way to the quarterfinal of that Grand Slam.
Unfortunately for the Belgian, things haven’t gone his way since as he first fell to Cameron Norrie at Wimbledon and is still hunting for his hard court win at the US Open Series.
Goffin was knocked out in the first round of Open by Jack Sock, before losing his opener to Albert Ramos-Vinolas in Montreal. And even his qualifiers here haven’t gone as easy as he would have liked.
After a straight-set victory over Hugo Gaston, Goffin needed to overcome the loss of the first set to Chun Hsin Tseng before swinging his way through to the main draw.
The question now is if he has the wherewithal to stop Giron in his tracks.
