Alex de Minaur v Henri Laaksonen Head to Head

The pair have played each other once before, at the Australian Open in 2019, de Minaur, who was then still a teenager, winning in five sets.

Atlanta Victor de Minaur Takes to Court

De Minaur has already tasted victory on the American hard court swing, winning the title in Atlanta, his sixth major tournament victory in all, and his first this year.

Since then, he lost to compatriot Nick Kyrgios in the first round in Washington, but fared better in Montreal, reaching the quarter-finals before Kyrgios again ended his interest in proceedings.

He will be hoping, if he is to go deep into this tournament, that he can avoid his fellow Australian this time.

Apart from Indian Wells, where he has twice made the fourth round, he does not have a particularly good record in Masters’ series events, something that he would like to put right.

Laaksonen Makes it Through Qualifiers

With Roger Federer’s continued absence from the tour, and Stan Wawrinka’s prolonged injury struggles, Laaksonen is currently the highest tanked Swiss player, although all of his successes have come on the ITF and Challenger tours.

His two best performances on the senior tour in 2022 have been second round appearances in Miami and at the French Open.

However, he has managed to qualify for Cincinnati for the first time in his career, by beating two higher ranked players. First he defeated Taro Daniel of Japan, the world number 93, in straight sets.

And then he came from a set down to battle his way past Thiago Monteiro of Brazil, ranked 65th in the world currently.

De Minaur v Laaksonen Prediction and Tip

If de Minaur can play anything like to his full potential, then he can be confident of dealing with any threat posed by the Swiss qualifier, who is making his main draw debut in Cincinnati.
