Maria Sakkari v Caroline Garcia Head to Head
Their only previous meeting came at the 2017 Wuhan Open where Garcia defeated Sakkari in straight sets to reach the final.

Because two tournaments into the US Open Series, Sakkari hasn’t produced a performance of note.
In San Jose, Sakkari had a first round bye but was sent packing by Shelby Rogers who allowed her to win just four games. And following a hard, grinding second round win against Sloane Stephens in Toronto, Sakkari was put to the sword by Karolina Pliskova in the third at the Canadian Open.
Sakkari managed to push that encounter into the third set but Pliskova did not waste a lot of time following that.
What the Greek number one will hope is for a stronger start and a deep dive into this competition but up against her is a player who in recent times has accumulated a few interesting results.

Garcia Pummels Petra
She had gone into her first round match as a favourite but for Garcia to ease past Petra Martic 6-3, 6-3 would have been a deeply pleasing experience.
Especially given that the world number 35 needed to go through the qualifiers to make the main draw and having won just three of her previous 11 matches on hard court surface this season.
Garcia needed an hour and 20 minutes to come through, breaking her opponent thrice in the encounter while herself saving all the four break-points she faced.
This follows a first round loss at the Canadian Open last week in a match she had started off a 3/5 favourite.
