Diego Schwartzman v Aslan Karatsev Head to Head
There have been two previous meetings, both of which came in 2021 and Karatsev defeated Schwartzman in both.
The first came at the Australian Open where Karatsev was a straight-set winner before shocking his clay court specialist opponent at the Madrid Masters that season.

Schwartzman Sputters Past Molcan
It wasn’t expected to be the easiest opening round encounter for the world number 16 if one were to believe the bookmakers and that’s exactly how things went for Schwartzman.
In the end, the Argentine came through in three sets but not before he had had to put up a dogged showing to get past Alex Molcan.
Schwartzman won 5-7, 6-4, 6-2, breaking his opponent’s resistance down bit by bit. The match lasted two hours and 35 minutes.
The first set went to serve till the 11th game before Schwartzman dropped his nerve and his serve off the first break-point he faced in the set. Molcan served it out to take the lead.
Five breaks of serves in six games of the second set, three of which went to Schwartzman, sealed the deal for him and with the momentum right back, the Argentine broke his opponent three more times in the final set to make it through.
Things could get a lot tougher against the Russian in round two.

Karatsev Too Good for Nakashima
Despite going into the encounter as a 9/5 underdog against Brandon Nakashima, Karatsev managed to put up a strong showing and completed a fighting, straight-set win.
Karatsev, who was on a four-match losing streak coming into this tournament, which included opening defeats in Washington and Montreal, defeated Nakashima 7-5, 7-5 in an hour and 38 minutes.
In a cagey first set, Karatsev did not face a single break-point and converted one of the three he got in the 11th game. Nakashima fought back in the second to go 3-1 up but dropped his serve in the very next game and once Karatsev had saved three break-points in the next game, he completed the win with a break in the 11th game.
Against Schwartzman, who is a clay-court specialist, Karatsev will give himself a good chance to complete a rare successive win.
Schwartzman v Karatsev Prediction and Tip
While Schwartzman is a teeny-weeny favourite here, we are backing Karatsev on hard courts especially after having gained back the confidence following the Nakashima win.
