Tsitsipas Looking to Put Canadian Open Disappointment Behind

World No. 7 Stefanos Tsitsipas has lost a bit of form over the last two tournaments but will be hoping to start off on a bright note in Cincinnati and recapture the early season form thanks to which he is 42-15 in 2022.

The winner of Monte-Carlo Masters and the Mallorca Open this year, Tsitsipas lost in the third round at Wimbledon to Nick Kyrgios and then exited the Canadian Open without winning a match after suffering a shock defeat to Jack Draper in the Round of 32.

He will be looking to put those disappointments behind him quickly and make a solid start in Cincinnati, where he had a 6-4 record.

The nine-time tour-level champion, who also finished runner-up in Rome and Rotterdam this year, was a semifinalist in Cincinnati in the previous two editions.

While Milos Raonic stopped the 24-year-old Greek from making the finals in 2020, it was Alexander Zverev who halted his run in 2021. Can the fourth seed make it to the final this year? It is still a long way away and his primary focus right now will be to begin well and then build on that start.

Krajinovic Gets Revenge Against Evans

World no. 46 Filip Krajnovic got a quick revenge over Daniel Evans in the opening round in Cincinnati on Tuesday to advance to Round 2. Last week, the Briton had beaten Krajinovic in a three-set opening round contest at the Canadian Open.

The Serbian player, however, avenged that defeat with a 6-3, 6-4 victory on Tuesday. Krajinovic made 34 unforced errors, which were still 12 fewer than Evans’ 46.

Krajinovic broke vans twice in the first set and once in the second to complete the win in an hour and 25 minutes.

With the win, the 30-year-old improved his season record to 19-15. A quarterfinalist in Cincinnati two years ago, Krajinovic is now 4-3 in the tournament.

Krajinovic has had a decent season so far, which includes a runner-up finish in Queen’s and a semifinal appearance in Montpellier. Having safely advanced from the first round, he will now be hoping to cause an upset in the Round of 32 on Wednesday.
