Felix Auger-Aliassime v Alex de Minaur
Felix Auger-Aliassime has a solid run back home in Montreal but it was cut short by a poor performance against Casper Ruud. It left him completely devastated but he’ll try to bounce back here. It’s a tough matchup against de Minaur but he’ll have some experiences to pull from.
It’s 1-1 in the H2H with both matches happening a very long time ago but it’s the only experience they have against each other. The matchup itself might be a very good one for de Minaur because his quickness will force Auger to try and find solutions.
The Canadian is known to complicate things when he’s unable to create many free points and that’s something he’ll have to find a way past. If he sprays errors as he did against Ruud, it won’t be a pretty sigh. They had similar years so far with both having 30 + wins. De Minaur has a better record on hard courts but Auger is the more talented player.
It will come down to who plays better. The odds favour Auger and he’s expected to move on but it will be far from simple. We’ll back him to get it done.
Tip: Auger-Aliassime to win: 4/5 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
Emma Raducanu v Victoria Azarenka
Many thought Emma Raducanu might stumble against Serena Williams but the Brit was fabulous beating the legend 6-4 6-0 to move on to round two. It was a superb display of clean ball striking against a player who was unable to keep up with the young energy of Raducanu. She’ll look to do something similar against Azarenka but it will be tougher.
Azarenka is a savvy veteran who knows how to play players like this because her counter-punching style is made for matchups like this. It will be a stern test for Raducanu who hasn’t played many players like this but it’s a test she’ll need to pass if she hopes to continue shaping herself as one of the best on the tour.
The year has been anything but great but it’s not a special year for Azarenka either. She has a good record of 17-9 but she didn’t play a lot of matches and lacks consistency. She couldn’t play in Montreal due to a VISA issue but returned with a win in Cincinnati. If she can ride that momentum she’ll be a tricky out for Raducanu.
The Brit should win but only if she can keep hitting the ball well. If she falls apart as she did against Giorgi she’s in big trouble. Expect a close one with twists and turns.
Tip: Over 20.5 games in the match: 5/6 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
Nick Kyrgios v Taylor Fritz
While both of these players advanced to round two it happened in a different fashion. Fritz destroyed Sebastian Baez 6-1 6-1 showing a very high level while Kyrgios kind of jogged his way to round two. It was a very slow match from the Australian as he admitted to feeling worn out after the match.
Once he finally warmed up, he looked quite good battling past Fokina but his level is not as sharp as last week. He got broken which is something that barely happened in the past few weeks. Fritz will fancy his chances in this one because Kyrgios looked very tired at the moment.
The question is whether the serve will be on point. If Kyrgios finds ways to win points with his serve First won’t have the chance to break. A good serve of his own, he’s prone to the occasional mistake and in a tiebreak scenario, those can be costly.
We expect a very close match with Fritz certainly taking a set but also Kyrgios winning. It’s very hard to turn your back against Kyrgios even with all the fatigue and lacklustre body language.
Tip: Kyrgios to win in three sets: 3/1 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
