Ons Jabeur v Petra Kvitova Head to Head

Kvitova has a 3-1 lead. She also won in Cincinnati last year. However, Jabeur beat the Czech for the first time in Sydney this year.

Jabeur Saves Three MPs to Beat McNally

World no. 5 Ons Jabeur saved three match points in the final set before edging past Caty McNally in the final set tiebreak in the second round on Wednesday.

The Tunisian saved two match points at 4-5 (15-40) and then saved another in the final set tiebreak, before converting her third match point in the tiebreak to seal a 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 (9-7) victory in two hours and 25 minutes.

Both players broke each other four times in the match and won 103 points each but it was the fifth seed who won the crucial moments to win the match.

Ever since going down to Elena Rybakina at the Wimbledon final, Jabeur won one and lost one in San Jose and could not finish her opening match at the Canadian Open. She almost lost to McNally in her first match in Cincinnati but having escaped defeat she will be feeling a lot more confident going into the next round.

The 27-year-old is 38-12 this year. She won two titles in Madrid and Berlin and finished runner-up in Charleston, Rome and Wimbledon. Hard courts have been the most challenging surface for her this year, where she is 10-7 in 2022, with her best being quarterfinal finishes in four tournaments.

Kvitova Crushes Cirstea

A two-time Cincinnati Open semifinalist, Petra Kvitova is one win from a fourth quarterfinal in Cincinnati.

The World No. 28, who escaped an opening round exit against Jil Teichmann, needed just 66 minutes to dispatch Sorana Cirstea in straight sets on Wednesday.

The Czech saved both the break points that she faced while she converted two break points in the first set and one in the second to beat the Romanian 6-2, 6-3.

In the first round, the former World no. 2 had saved a match point in the second set tiebreak against Teichmann before beating the World No. 21, 6-7 (2-7), 7-6 (8-6), 6-3.

Thanks to the two wins Kvitova is 19-15 this season. She won her 29th WTA title earlier this year by triumphing in Eastbourne.

Kvitova has struggled for consistency this season, with quarterfinal finishes in Dubai and Miami being her only other two significant performances this year. Having got off to a good start in Cincinnati, she will be hoping to keep the winning run going.
