John Isner is a savvy veteran but one that still knows his way around the court. He faced two tricky players in the first two rounds in Cincinnati and he beat both of them in three sets. The win over Montreal finalist Hubert Hurkacz was particularly impressive but he was a bit lucky with the Pole feeling fatigued.
Hurkacz played both the singles and doubles in Montreal and it showed at times. Nonetheless, Isner deserved a lot of respect for what his doing this year because it’s not just the serve. His game is far more complete and stable and the serve obviously helps.
The score is 20-15 so fairly solid however it’s a negative record on hard courts 7-8. Better players do find way to beat Isner and Korda is certainly one that counts himself among the better players in the world. Isner will need to be careful in this one because he lost to Korda twice.
The flat groundstrokes of Sebastian are perfect for this kind of conditions and he can move Isner around forcing him off balance. Isner will try to keep rallies short because that’s his best chance.

Korda Eyeing a Quarterfinal
Shin issues aren’t a concern for Sebastian Korda anymore as the American looks very good after taking a break before this part of the season. A slow start in Atlanta saw Korda improve tremendously in Washington and he’s looking really sharp this week as well.
Wins over Karen Khachanov and Frances Tiafoe were impressive and a chance to take play Isner for the quarterfinal is something to Korda’s liking. He won both matches he played against Isner and while probably a tough matchup, it’s a winnable one.
The younger American knows how to win that matchup and he knows it’s about keeping the ball in play and forcing Isner to decide what to do. A lot will depend on how well he can return but he’s got a decent return that can get the ball deep in the court.
If he plays consistent enough from the baseline and returns well, he’ll be looking at a win number three against Isner and a quarterfinal in Cincinnati.
Isner v Korda Prediction and Tip
This is a tricky matchup because a vintage Isner performance is certainly good enough to win this matchup. Generally though, Korda is a bad matchup.
He can keep the ball in play which Isner doesn’t like and he has a fairly solid return. The H2H is 2-0 in Korda’s favour and I think that moves to 3-0 after this one.
