Stefanos Tsitsipas v John Isner Head to Head

There have been six previous meetings between these two players and Tsitsipas leads 4-2 on the head to head.

It was Isner who began with a couple of wins in their first two matches, at Shanghai and Wimbledon in 2017 and 2018 but since then Tsitsipas has taken control of their head to head.

These two met at the 2020 Cincinnati Masters as well, leading to a win in two tie-breakers for the Greek player.

Tsitsipas Dismantles Schwartzman with Ease

It did not take Tsitsipas too much to get past his Argentinian opponent Diego Schwartzman and reach the quarterfinal.

Following a first round bye and an easy second round victory over Filip Krajinovic, Tsitsipas was on court for a mere hour and 36 minutes to clinch a 6-3, 6-3 win over Schwartzman.

While Tsitsipas won just 58% of his points on his serve, and was broken twice in the encounter, he did enough to get past his opponent’s serve on five separate occasions.

Attacking Schwartzman’s second serve, the 2021 Cincinnati Open semifinalist Tsitsipas took a 4-0 lead in the first set and was 5-2 up in the second when he did let up a tad. That wasn’t enough for Schwartzman to take full toll as Tsitsipas eased through to last eight.

Seventh Successive Three-Setter for Isner

You read that right. In what was his seventh successive three-set match on tour, Isner managed to eke out a narrow victory over fellow American Sebastian Korda and reach the quarterfinal of this event for the first time since 2017.

Isner, who had earlier needed three sets to defeat Benjamin Bonzi in the first round and shock Hubert Hurkacz in the second, was a 7-6 (3), 1-6, 7-6 (4) winner over Korda in his third round match. The match lasted a mere two hours and two minutes despite the two tie-breakers and three sets thanks to the total of 29 aces and short points.

What was interesting to note was while Isner failed to break Korda even once, his own serve was broken twice and yet, the world number 50 came away a winner.

Can he now use his serve to stop Tsitsipas dead in his tracks too?

Tsitsipas v Isner Prediction and Tip

While Tsitsipas is himself not in the best of form, he should have enough fuel left in his tank to take down Isner despite the latter’s excellent serving.
