Daniil Medvedev v Taylor Fritz
Daniil Medvedev did not play his best tennis but the Russian was able to overcome a very inspired effort from Daniil Medvedev. He will need something similar as he can expect an inspired effort from Fritz who already has one ATP 1000 trophy this year.
Medvedev is playing a contrasting style with his return position being far back trying to force players to make a mistake. It’s different for Fritz as the American likes to attack but he doesn’t do it with consistency. Still, he’s been playing a really good event which he demonstrated by coming back and beating Rublev.
A lot will depend on the serve because both have a good one and for both, it’s the key to keeping the other away from chances. They had similar seasons so far as Medvedev has a 33-11 record and Fritz a 35-13. They never played and the most important thing for Fritz will be to find ways to win points without having to overhit.
Medvedev will send a lot of balls back and hope that the American makes mistakes. He can’t allow that to happen and I think he won’t. Can’t say that he’ll win but I expect Taylor to at least win a set.
Tip: Fritz to win a set – Yes: 8/15 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
Felix Auger-Aliassime v Borna Coric
The sudden rise of Borna Coric truly came out of nowhere but it’s not that surprising. The Croatian saw glimpses earlier this year and it was only a matter of time when his game would click. He’s always been good but playing with a bad shoulder for two years was problematic.
The bounce back of Felix Auger-Aliassime from his Montreal disappointment has been impressive. The Canadian did not allow the loss to weigh him down and he took out two tricky opponents fairly easily. It’s impressive and he’s certainly building up that nice form for the US Open.
Auger had the better year so far as he played more. Talent-wise, Auger has the upper hand as well but Coric is not that far behind. It’s highly unlikely that Coric will be able to keep the high level up as Auger has been playing like this for a solid three weeks now. Both of their matches so far happened in 2019 and they split them.
I think it will be close but I also think the Canadian will get it done in three sets.
Tip: Auger-Aliassime to win in three sets: 3/1 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
Stefanos Tsitsipas v John Isner
Stefanos Tsitsipas will finally get a chance to contest for another semifinal as his return to hard courts looked very shaky last week. The Greek player has had success here in the past and he’s finding it again this year. Play has been fairly good as the draw was favourable but this will be a tough test.
He had a 44-15 record on the year which is far better than Isner’s 21-15 and this won’t be an easy match for the Greek. Any time you face an American in their county will be tough, particularly so if you’re facing a superb server like Isner.
They played six times and Tistsipas won four of them. He’ll need to draw inspiration from those clashes and he most likely will. Isner will need to put on a serving clinic keeping Tsitsipas away from break point and try to avoid tiebreaks. It’s unlikely that he will be able to but the forehand needs to be on point.
Take Tsitsipas here.
Tip: Tsitsipas to win: 9/20 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
