Juvan had had a solid set of results going for her at the start of the season, especially in hard court competitions but hasn’t quite begun well in Cincinnati last week.
The world number 67, playing in her first tournament since making it to the third round at Wimbledon, went down in the first qualifying match itself in Cincinnati. She lost in three sets to Magdalena Frech despite starting out an 8/11 favourite.
This followed Juvan having made the quarterfinal of the Adelaide International at the start of the season as her best hard court result for the year. There were also second round appearances at Doha and Indian Wells as a qualifier.
She now takes on a qualifier who has never been ranked higher than 735th in the world and that should allow her to add to her kitty of wins this season.

Brace in Early Days of Her Career
Making her pro debut in 2020 when Brace played just one ITF competition, she followed it up with three more of them in 2021. Brace reached the final at one of them late last year which helped her improve her ranking drastically.
This is Brace’s first full year as a professional which has already seen her enter the second round of a WTA125 competition in Vancouver.
Here, in Granby, with wins over Kamran Thandi and Nadiya Kichenok, Brace has made it to the maiden main draw of a WTA tournament. While a win over Juvan seems a bit far-fetched, confidence is a wonderful thing and can play a huge part here.
Can it make things more interesting though as Brace looks to make life difficult for her more fancied opponent?
