Shuai Zhang v Katerina Siniakova
An in-form Shuai Zhang will try to defeat Katerina Siniakova for the first time in her career. They played twice before and both times Siniakova proved better. Those matches happened a long time ago and since then Zhang has improved quite a bit.
She is coming off of a quarterfinal in Cincinnati where she defeated players like Naomi Osaka, Ekaterina Alexandrova and Anett Kontaveit eventually losing to Aryna Sabalenka. She is playing really well from the baseline although her serves are rather slow.
Siniakova will have a decent shot here due to that but quite a few players struggled with returning against Zhang.
Siniakova’s playstyle is one of attacking and she won’t waste much time attacking the serve. That should open quite a few chances for her and some of them will be taken. That’s why I believe this match might go the distance or certainly be quite competitive.
I’d be quite surprised if Zhang doesn’t win this but I could see her struggle a little bit.
Tip: Zhang to Win, Over 20.5 Games: 11/8 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
Clara Tauson v Harmony Tan
Both of these players will be looking for some much-needed wins in Cleveland. Tauson has been in poor for form for a long time and it’s troublesome for a young player trying to make her mark. She had some wins at WTA 125 K event in Concord but immediately stumbled in the Cincinnati qualifiers.
Tan didn’t even play the qualifiers as she could not enter them but she did pick up some wins in Concord as well. It’s an interesting matchup on paper where Tan might have a slight advantage simply due to playing in Cleveland this week already.
The better player is Tauson but her game is so dependent on being in a good rhythm and playing well and she hasn’t been doing that for a very long time. Maybe a good run here could create a spark as the Tour moves back indoors in the next few months.
I think it’ll be competitive and I think both will win a set. The player who should win the match is Clara Tauson.
Tip: Tauson to win in three sets: 3/1 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
Mikael Ymer v Federico Coria
Mikael Ymer picked up some decent form over the past couple of weeks playing some really strong tennis in Washington. He also played really well in Winston-Salem last year reaching the final and losing to Ilya Ivashka. The draw gave him a perfect launching match as he’ll face a player whose hard court game is far from good.
Corio played only a handful of matches on these types of courts and holds a 9-22 record in his career. One of those rare wins came this year but he played only four matches as well. They never played before so there will be some surprise factor in play but I don’t see how Ymer should struggle here.
If he brings anything remotely close to his Washington level, he’ll have no worries. The only way for Coria to win this match is if he plays a really strong match and outplays Ymer from the baseline. I don’t think that will happen so back the Swede in straight sets.
Tip: Ymer to win in straight sets: 8/11 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
