Sinner 17-5 on Hard Court This Season

Sinner had won four titles last season, all of which had come on hard court surfaces. This year, he is yet to win one in those kind of tournaments but has done enough to suggest he is a force to reckon, especially if he gets a kind draw earlier on.

The world number 13, who had broken into the top 10 last season, is 17-5 in hard court competitions in 2022. This includes third round exit at both, the Canadian Masters and the Cincinnati Masters, which, for a player of his pedigree, seem a tad underwhelming.

A defeat Pablo Carreno Busta at Montreal and then to Felix Auger-Aliassime in Cincinnati point to some more effort being the need of the hour for the Italian.

But with a quarterfinal appearance at the Australian Open earlier this year under his belt, it wouldn’t be very surprising if Sinner can shrug those last two results off and resume with renewed vigour here.

Altmaier Hasn’t Won a Main Draw Match Since Mallorca

It was in June earlier this year that Altmaier last won a competitive match, reaching the quarterfinal of the Mallorca Open on grass then.

In the seven tournaments that have followed since then for Altmaier, he has not gone past the first round of those tournaments. To go with that, in two of those tournaments, Altmaier has not even made it past the qualifiers.

Those qualifying defeats came at the Montreal Masters and the Cincinnati Masters before Altmaier crashed out to Soon-woo Kwon in Winston-Salem.

The kind of form he has been all season, Altmaier might not have survived a three-match qualifying attempt here at the US Open but his ranking allowed him to make it through without that trouble.

The issue, however, is if Altmaier continues to struggle in the manner he has recently, it might not be long before he is forced to go through those qualifiers at majors too.

Sinner v Altmaier Prediction and Tip

This is an easy call. Sinner is in far too good a form to face any kind of trouble from a struggling Altmaier. Straight-setter expected.

Tip: Altmaier to win in straight sets: 3/20 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
