Barbora Krejcikova is off to a good start here in Cleveland, as she beat Francesca di Lorenzo 6-3, 6-1 to reach round two.
The 26-year-old Czech started the season inside the top five, but an arm injury completely spoiled her rhythm. She was forced to take a few months off the tour, and the subsequent recovery and momentum loss have landed her in the #23 position in the singles ranking.
Needless to say, her last few tournaments have not gone according to plan. Barbora’s recent highlights include a third-round stint in Wimbledon and Hamburg, followed by early defeats in Prague, Toronto, and Cincinnati.
Nonetheless, not all is lost for Krejcikova as she continues to impress on the doubles circuit. She won the Australian Open and Wimbledon with Katerina Siniakova to stay afloat in the top 10 there.

Pera Beats Hozumi
Bernarda Pera, World No. 51, defeated the Japanese qualifier Eri Hozumi 6-1, 6-2, to reach round two.
The 27-year-old has had a phenomenal few weeks of late as she has now improved her tally to 28-14 and is armed with a litany of deep runs.
Most recently, Pera was the runner-up in the Concord Challenger, preceded by her consecutive title runs in Budapest and Hamburg. Earlier in the year, she was also the runner-up in Karlsruhe Challenger.
Sailing high on confidence and momentum, Pera is building her form game by game – just in time for her home tournament at the US Open. It also marks an impressive turnaround compared to the first half of the season, where she was seen visibly struggling.
Krejcikova v Pera Prediction and Tip
Backing Pera may not be the worst move here, given that Krejcikova is not in the best of form while the American has got a fair bit of tempo to her game.
That said, Barbora can win this one – provided she starts strong and keeps the errors count on the downside. Expect a cracking affair.
