Laura Siegemund v Liudmila Samsonova Head to Head

World No. 45 Liudmila Samsonova enjoyed a commanding start to her campaign in Tennis in the Land as she routed Iryna Shymanovich 6-1, 6-0, winning 87% of the points behind the first serve.
The 23-year-old Russian arrived in Cleveland following her superb title run in the Citi Open, where she upset the likes of Elise Mertens, Ajla Tomljanovic, Emma Raducanu, Xiyu Wang, and Kaia Kanepi to lift her second WTA singles title.
That was Samsonova’s best run of the season. Her previous highlights were her semifinal stint in Stuttgart, a quarterfinal in Adelaide and a fourth-round run in the Indian Wells Open. That said, it hasn’t been all that great as her tally now stands at 16-14.
Liudmila has all the makings of a rising star; over the course of her career, she has already beaten a handful of top 10 players.

Siegemund Survives Kalinina
Laura Siegemund of Germany, age 34, had to work hard to earn her opening-round win in Cleveland as she played Anhelina Kalinina and won 6-4, 4-6, 6-2.
She started as a qualifier in the tournament and moved past Akasha Urhobo and Francesca di Lorenzo to reach the main draw.
Siegemund is ranked #216 – mainly owing to a lacklustre, late start to the season. Her highlights include a few ITF titles in Austria and a quarterfinal feat in Stuttgart. Her last tournament was in Toronto, where she lost her opening qualifying game to Lauren Davis.
However, not all has been bad for Laura as she won the Lyon Open and Miami Open doubles with Vera Zvonareva.
Samsonova v Siegemund Prediction and Tip
It is difficult to imagine Siegemund bagging this one; Samsonova is in form and has the momentum, whereas the German has been struggling a lot of late.
Expect the Russian to win this one – albeit with some resistance.
