Shuai Zhang v Martina Trevisan Head to Head

Shuai Zhang made quick work of the doubles expert Katerina Siniakova in the opener here as she won the match 6-2, 6-1 – capitalising on a weak game by the Czech.
World No. 33 Zhang had a wonderful time in Cincinnati last week, where she reached the quarterfinal – after losing in the opening matches in her last six appearances.
The veteran Chinese achieved this personal feat in style by dispatching the likes of Naomi Osaka, Ekaterina Alexandrova, and Anett Kontaveit. She ultimately lost to Aryna Sabalenka.
Earlier in the year, Zhang was also impressive in other WTA 250 events like the Lyon Open (title run) and the Birmingham Classic (runner-up feat). On the doubles side of things, she was the finalist in Wimbledon, Birmingham, and Stuttgart.
Shuai’s year now stands at a respectable 28-21.

Trevisan, a Clay-Court Specialist
World No. 27 Martina Trevisan has a strong preference for clay courts, evident by her 17 of the 18 ITF finals that came on this surface – in addition to her one Challenger and WTA final that came in Rabat and Karlsruhe.
Moreover, since reaching the semifinal in the French Open – a breathtaking run that propelled her into the top 30, the Italian has failed to carry that same rhythm forward across other surfaces.
Trevisan lost in the first round in Bad Homburg and Wimbledon and, most recently, in Toronto and Cincinnati. Between these events, she did reach the quarterfinal in Budapest – a clay court event.
Clearly, Martina has her job cut out for her if she wants to beat Zhang.

This match is effectively Zhang’s to lose; she is experienced, has a far superior pedigree and has always been comfortable on hard courts. Trevisan, on the other hand, may be out of her element here and will likely face an uphill task of winning this one.
