Karen Khachanov v Denis Kudla Head to Head

The head-to-head is tied at 1-1, with Khachanov winning their 2022 meeting at this year’s Australian Open in four sets. However, Kudla won their very first meeting on US soil back in 2018. Could history repeat itself?

Will the Real Khachanov Stand Up?

Karen Khachanov’s bright to the season has gone up in smoke in the past couple of months. The Russian big hitter had top 10 aspirations when the new year came around.

His form Down Under seemed to suggest Khachanov was destined for a return to the Top 10. He started the year by reaching his first tour-level final (in Adelaide) since 2018  when he shockingly captured the Paris Masters crown.

And despite falling short to Gael Monfils, he kept the momentum going at his next two tournaments – advancing into the quarterfinals in Adelaide 2 and the third round of the Australian Open where he lost to eventual champion Rafael Nadal.

But surprisingly, his form began to disintegrate shortly after losing to Novak Djokovic in Dubai. A four-match winless streak would ensure before the Russian snapped that run in Belgrade almost two months later.

Khchanov surpassed expectations with his decent displays on clay. He made it to the Round of 16 in Rome and the fourth round of Roland Garros for the first time. Both results kept him inside the top 30, although he would not feature at Wimbledon due to the ban inflicted upon all Russian and Belarusian players.

Khachanov’s hard-court swing has not gone to plan thus far. The recent defeat to Sebastian Korda in Cincinnati means that he will need to work his socks off if he is to make a statement at the US Open.

Will Home Turf Suit Kudla?

Denis Kudla has done enough to hold onto his top 100 ranking, thanks to his strong performances on the ATP Challenger Tour. Kudla won the eighth title of his career at that level in Phoenix in March.

He backed up that result with a great run to the third round of the Miami Masters as a qualifier just a week later. Things went quiet during the clay-court season bar a semifinal run at the Sarasota Challenger.

However, on grass, Kudla lived up to his reputation as one of the game’s most consistent performers on the surface. He reached the finals in Surbiton, beating the likes of Alexei Popyrin, Liam Broady, and Andy Murray. Although he finished runner-up to Jorda Thompson, he now owns an 80-50 record on grass.

Kudlld has not been in great form in the past couple of months, having won just once in eight matches. Can he turn his fortunes around on home soil?

Khachanov v Kudla Prediction and Tip

Kudla stole a set from Khachanov when the pair met at this year’s Australian Open. And with the crowd cheering Kudla every step of the way in New York, the price of him repeating that trick is not too shabby and very much within his reach.

Tip: Khachanov to win AND both players to win a set: 6/4 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
